It is 7’o’ Clock in the morning here at Nainital. The Sun is up in its full fervour and the sunshine is coming right to my table through the window. I can feel the warmth of this sunshine on my face and body. Looking at the Sun is so amazing and refreshing despite of the fact that I have been looking it for many years. I have looked at the Sun while going to school as a small kid, I have seen this sun while playing sports in adolescence, I have seen this Sun through the window of the air plane while flying 33000 feet above the surface of the Earth and on innumerable occasions under innumerable circumstances. This Sun in summers has troubled me and invited my wrath but this is the same Sun which in winters, while sitting motionlessly in its shine has allowed me to feel that this world is simply beautiful. In this long span of time, there is absolutely no change which I can notice in the Sun or its wonderful vigour. Even today the Sun is Sun, shining with all its gaiety. The world has gone a sea change. Globalisation, trade, global warming, climate change, terrorism, conflicts, wars, harmony and love, but, no change in the Sun. The Sun is there since then and will be there forever. It is the source of life on this planet earth. It sustains life of all the creatures, be it the mighty Whale fish at the bottom of the ocean or the tiny ants in my room always busy in accumulating food.
All can change but not the rising of the Sun every morning at the dawn and its setting down every evening at the dusk. This constitutes a full day. ‘A Day’, seems to be so normal to all of us because a simple day gives no reason to feel special or to feel happy about. After all, in a normal human life we live through thousands of days and number of years and thus each day can not be special. Except for few days, we don’t feel anything unique about each day which passes. Each day comes and goes, the Sun comes and goes and we work tirelessly to make good of our human life. We work, we eat, and we sleep on each day. Days and days and even years pass by in such a manner and we hardly realise that each one of us has his or her doom’s day too. A day shall come for each one of us when we will see the Sun for the last time. That day would be a final finale and despite the best efforts and most benign intentions the life will not be kind enough to let us have the same warmth and liveliness of this Sun which we enjoy every day. Perhaps that day will be the day, when we will realise the value of ‘A Day’ itself. That day will be an experience most unique. That day will reveal the ultimate value of cherishing the Sunrise and rejoicing in the Sunset.
